Taking the guesswork out of cosmetic surgery
Australians who are contemplating cosmetic surgery but are confused about how to find a well trained surgeon can now visit a new online directory for recognised plastic surgeons.
The new directory has been set up by the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the peak group for Australia's specialist plastic surgeons, and can be found at www.plasticsurgeonsaustralia.info
ASPS President Howard Webster said the directory was designed to make it easier for people to make a well informed decision about their surgery by listing bona fide plastic surgeons only.
"The popularity of cosmetic surgery is growing every day but so is the number of practitioners undertaking complex surgery without formal surgical qualifications or training.
"Even an intelligent layperson struggles to differentiate between real specialists and non surgeons, especially when they're being bombarded by so much online advertising," said Dr Webster.
"We now have an online directory that lists only genuine plastic surgeons who meet the standards of Australia's only recognised surgical training college, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
"Members of the public considering cosmetic or reconstructive surgery can rest assured that everyone in this directory is fully trained and qualified, operates only in accredited surgical facilities, adheres to a strict code of ethics, and regularly attends continuing medical education courses," said Dr Webster.
Visitors to www.plasticsurgeonsaustralia.info can search for a qualified plastic surgeons by state, and then select those in their nearest suburb.
